We study oxide materials science with emphasis on elucidating structure-property relations and exploratory solid state devices. Problems of interest center around controlled synthesis of oxide thin films; investigating effects of microstructure, interfaces and point defects in determining functional properties involving electronic and ionic transport.
Some on-going projects include:
- Studies on the metal-insulator transition in rutile oxides (such as VO2) and electron devices
- Novel solid-state energy materials synthesis and devices thereof
- High temperature ionic and electronic transport in thin film oxide-ion conductors; instrumentation and technique development
- Ultra-thin oxide synthesis, electric field effects and passivity breakdown
