Research in our group is primarily focused on oxide thin films and nanostructures with emphasis on understanding structure-property relations. Problems of interest center around controlled synthesis of oxides and investigating effects of microstructure and point defects in determining functional properties as well as structure evolution in binary and multi-component oxides.

Some on-going projects include:

• Mechanistic understanding of role of electric fields in initial oxidation and corrosion kinetics of metals and alloys
• Interface effects on ion conduction mechanisms in fluorite oxides
• Metal-insulator phase transition mechanisms in rutile oxides and their active tuning
• Mechanisms governing oxygen incorporation into oxides under photon irradiation
• Novel energy materials synthesis
