A 3D image of a compressed emulsion. The black droplets are water, the rest of the sample is an oil. Taken at our confocal microscope facility.

Picture provided by by Suliana Manley and Eric Weeks.

The picture at left is a 2D cross section through the emulsion. The coloring is for fun; in real life, this emulsion is clear.

Other 3D views of the same sample. For some reason, the picture was brighter for the last few layers, thus resulting in the appearance of a "lid" on the right hand picture.
