Cool Picture of the Moment

We had a sample with undyed PMMA particles, and dye in the solvent. The sample had crystallized; by looking at a plane slightly between two crystal planes, we got this interesting moire-like pattern. See below for the same sample, focused on a crystal plane. The colors are artificial in both pictures.

The particles in the picture below are 1.5 microns in diameter. This picture has inverted colors; the fluorescent stuff is the solvent (the stuff between the circles).
