1mg/mL collagen gel with 1micron diameter fluorescent beads showing how the structure is macroscopically pulled in the vertical direction, but shows significant contraction in the horizontal direction, due to a high apparent Poisson's ratio. Super-imposed grid is there to follow the deformation of the gel more easily. Gel is deformed at 2.5E-3 per second strain rate; field of view is almost 2mm.
