Developing new types of scanning near-field optical microscopes and photonic crystals at Harvard University. |

Welcome! Optical techniques are well established at the macro-scale, but difficult to apply on the nano-scale. This is due to the mismatch between the wavelength of light, and the dimensions of nanostructures. Optical antennas present an opportunity to bridge these length scales. These surface plasmon devices enable electromagnetic energy to be concentrated into deep sub-wavelength regions. The Crozier Group is developing optical antennas for applications in sensing, imaging, and nanomanipulation. In a related project, the Crozier group is developing microfabricated optical tweezers based on Fresnel Zone Plates.
